Inca Trail Availability & Permits 2027
Planning to hike the Inca Trail in 2027? Check your preferred date for the Classic 4-Day or Short 2-Day route below. For either trek, select the day you will start hiking—not the day you arrive in Cusco.
Check Inca Trail permit availability
Select the Classic or Short Inca Trail, then choose your preferred month. The date you select is the day you enter the trail. Check the Short route separately even if the Classic route is sold out.

The calendar shows available permits, but selecting a date does not reserve a place. Before you pay, we’ll check the permits and the train, guide and accommodation arrangements for your tour. We’ll send written confirmation once your permit has been issued.
Classic vs Short Inca Trail permits
The Classic and Short Inca Trail have separate permit availability. If your date is sold out for the 4-day trek, check the 2-day route before changing your travel plans.

Short Inca Trail permits: what you need to book
The 2-day Short Inca Trail follows the final section of the Classic Inca Trail. The usual route starts at KM 104, passes through Chachabamba and joins the Classic route at Wiñay Wayna before continuing to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) and Machu Picchu. You hike on the first day and return for a guided Machu Picchu visit on the second day.
The Short Inca Trail requires an official permit for your hiking date. A regular Machu Picchu entrance ticket does not provide access to the Inca Trail. To check 2-day Inca Trail availability, select the Short route in the calendar and use the date you plan to start hiking.
Check the hiking date and the Machu Picchu visit
A typical 2-day Short Inca Trail tour combines the hike on day one with a guided Machu Picchu visit on day two. Before paying, confirm the access, circuit and entry time included for each day. Availability for the hike does not establish that every optional Machu Picchu circuit or mountain ticket is available.
Book with the correct traveler details
Provide your full name, nationality, date of birth and passport details exactly as requested by the booking team. If you are renewing your passport, tell the team before the permit is processed and ask which documents you must bring.
For the route, difficulty and preparation, read our Short Inca Trail guide. For the itinerary and tour inclusions, see the 2-Day Inca Trail tour.

3. Receive permit confirmation
Follow the payment instructions for your tour. Wait for written confirmation that your permit has been issued. If booking before the official release, ask how your request and payment will be handled if your date cannot be secured.
When should you book?
Book as early as practical if your travel dates are fixed, especially for popular dry-season departures. There is no booking window that guarantees availability for every date. Check the actual inventory and permit release status before committing to non-refundable travel arrangements.
What to do if Inca Trail permits are sold out
- Check departure dates before or after your first choice.
- If the Classic route is unavailable, check Short Inca Trail permits separately.
- If both routes are unavailable, ask about another trek or a train-based Machu Picchu visit.
- Confirm Machu Picchu entrance availability and the rest of the itinerary before booking an alternative.
If the official inventory is sold out for the same route and date, changing agencies does not create additional permits. A private tour still needs permits. Our team can help you find another date or itinerary.
